Walk, cross, travel, trace, inhabit, visit, discover, roam, explore, and wander…
For the past year, I have been walking through different territories (France and Spain) and places; along paths, roads and streets through diverse and varied urban or rural geographies, wandering at random or following predefined routes.
In order to measure these experiences, I used my body with « artificial extensions », such as a camera and a pen, instruments that enabled me to measure space and time and most importantly my perceptions. My body ergo the instrument of perception and drawing, a medium through which these crossed, trodden, trampled and traversed places are re-transcribed, thereupon revealing abstract maps, surfaces of balladry, and islands of poetry, all of which evoke the sensations and vibes of the places I sauntered; in other word, its poesy. These representations, these poetic objects (photographs and drawings) are nothing other than narratives: guiding lines to an itinerary, an initiation, or maybe even an Odyssey. I perceive each and one of these objects as “interruptions in a spatial grid” (Tony Smith), which reveal and unfold new landscapes before my eyes.
Could travel and walking be a way to achieve André Breton’s concept of lâchez-tout?
Marcher, traverser, voyager, tracer, habiter, visiter, découvrir, parcourir…
Depuis un an, je sillonne des territoires différents (Espagne et France), lieux, chemins, sentiers et rues à travers des géographies diverses et variées quelles soient urbaines ou rurales, déambulant au hasard ou suivant des parcours prédéfinis.
Afin de mesurer ces expériences, j’ai utilisé mon corps ainsi que des prothèses, des extensions artificielles tels que l’appareil photographique et le stylographe comme instruments de mesure de l’espace et du temps mais aussi de mes perceptions. Mon corps devient alors un instrument perceptif mais aussi de dessin par intermédiaire, un médium pour la retranscription de ces lieux traversés, foulés, piétinés et parcourus révélant ainsi des cartes abstraites, des îlots de poésies, des surfaces qui évoquent les sensations des lieux. Ces représentations, ces objets poétiques que sont les photographies et les dessins ne sont rien d’autre que des narrations, des lignes conductrices d’un itinéraire, d’une initiation, voire d’une Odyssée. Je perçois chacun de ces objets comme des « interruptions dans une grille spatiale » (Tony Smith) qui dévoilent et font défiler sous nos yeux de nouveaux paysages.
Le voyage et la marche seraient-ils un moyen d’atteindre le lâchez-tout d’André Breton ?
